A Message From the Principal
TAHHAN CHILD CARE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
720 E. Plymouth St., Glendora, CA. 91740
Welcome Back Tahhan Child Care! This is sure to be an exciting year, filled with wonderful learning opportunities and extracurricular activities. I am thrilled to be starting another year at Tahhan Child Care and am returning with great enthusiasm for implementing common core standards in every classroom while assisting our fantastic PTA volunteers in coordinating fun activities and events for students that make their years at Tahhan Child Care a memorable time. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to get involved with PTA. The first step is securing a membership. Your six dollar membership fee helps to fund special assemblies and events before, during, and after school hours. Of course, they are always looking for volunteers and there is a place for every single parent to serve. Remember, we are a team and Together Everyone Achieves More!
We hope that you will all participate in our Back to School Night Event on August 28th from 6:00-7:45 p.m. Be on the lookout for a flyer coming home with your child this week with specific information. This is one event you do not want to miss! Your child’s teacher(s) will be presenting grade level standards and expectations as well as homework policies. Come learn how you can best support your child to have a positive learning experience this school year and to experience optimal academic and emotional growth.
Did you know that there are additional resources available to you for supporting and extending your child’s learning at home? With their school username and password, students may log on to any computer with internet access and utilize the flowing software programs at no cost:
- Reading Eggs/Reading Express
- Study Island ELA, Math, Science, Social Science
- Moby Max
They may also read a variety of self-selected books within their reading range at any time and return to school to take Accelerated Reader quizzes and work towards earning their very own AR t-shirt with extra “bling” for reaching their AR points goals. All of these programs supplement the high quality curriculum provided by our fantastic classroom teachers. Help your child to set some goals this year in acquiring 100% of their blue ribbons on Study Island to receive special medals, obtaining their AR t-shirt, or completing work in the library and gym areas of Reading Eggs/Express to receive special medals. Setting goals and working towards achieving them is a skill students will take into college and careers and utilize for a lifetime.
Again, I welcome everyone back to school and am looking forward to working collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and the school community to make this an awesome year! As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or compliments!
Yours in Education,
Mary Tahhan
